Normalization, Dermatology-Style

Dermatology P&Ls need specialty-specific restatement before any multiple applies. Owner compensation benchmarks against dermatologist replacement cost. If you're the Mohs surgeon, the benchmark is Mohs-trained replacement cost, which is higher. Cosmetic marketing spend gets analyzed for sustainability: revenue bought with unsustainable ad spend isn't durable EBITDA. Product inventory, injector commissions, med spa related-party flows, and family on payroll all get adjusted. The output is your practice's normalized cash flow, and that is what every sophisticated dermatology buyer prices.

The Three Approaches in Dermatology

The market approach carries particular weight here: dermatology practices transact often, and private transaction databases give us a rich comp set, which we adjust for practice size and profitability. The income approach tests those comps against your specific risks: how much of the revenue depends on you personally, Mohs concentration, and payer trends in medical dermatology. The asset approach (lasers and devices have real value, and real obsolescence) sets the floor. Reconciled into one USPAP-compliant conclusion.

When Dermatologists Call Us

A platform LOI that needs a second opinion within its exclusivity window; a partner buy-in where the senior partner's cosmetic book complicates "fair"; a divorce where cash-pay revenue invites controllable-income arguments (see divorce valuation); exit planning two to three years ahead of a sale. Selling now? See dermatology brokerage.

Three Engagement Tiers, One Standard

We scope the right tier on your discovery call, so you never pay for more report than your purpose requires.

Hourly Consulting

Scoped on your call

A second opinion without commissioning a full valuation. Physicians use it for an independent read on a private equity offer, a partner buy-in, or a purchase they are weighing before signing a letter of intent.

Most popular

Summary Report

Starting at $3,950

A professionally developed conclusion of value in a streamlined report, grounded in normalized financials and real market data, and prepared in compliance with USPAP. The right fit for exit planning, pricing a sale, or anchoring a partner buy-in. Our most common engagement.

Detailed Report

Starting at $7,500

The gold standard, with full documentation of data, methodology, and assumptions, prepared in compliance with USPAP. Required where the number will be challenged: divorce, shareholder disputes, and gift & estate tax filings.

A clear, three-step process

  1. 1

    Discovery Call

A confidential conversation about your practice, your timeline, and the purpose of the valuation. We scope the right report tier before you commit to anything.

  2. 2

    Financial Analysis & Interviews

We interview you and normalize your financials. Owner compensation, one-time expenses, and related-party leases all get restated. Typical turnaround: 1–2 weeks.

  3. 3

    Certified Opinion of Value

You receive a defensible, USPAP-compliant conclusion of value, walked through line by line. The report is documented to withstand scrutiny from a buyer, a court, a partner, or a lender.

Frequently asked questions

When the engagement calls for that depth, we look at rebooking and retention rates, revenue per injector, and marketing cost per acquired patient. Cosmetic revenue that stays without your personal involvement is premium earnings, and the valuation reflects which kind you have.

Yes. If the growth you achieved last year is the new normal, it becomes the earnings baseline. If a stretch of above-average growth is still ahead of you, that can be projected through a discounted cash flow analysis. We model the difference between structural growth (new providers, new capacity) and one-time events (a viral moment, a competitor's exit), because buyers will.

Yes, they are part of practice revenue, and if they are included in the sale they belong in the EBITDA calculation. If they are excluded from the sale, we carve them out of the analysis. When a practice operates through multiple entities, related-party income and expenses may need restatement to show what the practice actually earns.

Yes. Valuation engagements are handled remotely from our California office. We work from your financials, interview you by phone or video, and send you the finished report. We have completed valuations in more than 35 states, and an on-site visit can be arranged when an engagement calls for it. Many physicians have no local appraiser who focuses on medical practices, so working with a specialist remotely often serves you better than hiring a generalist nearby.
